FC Wisconsin Nationals wrapped up their 2013-14 season this week, with a combined Under-16/17 team posting a 1-1-1 record at the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Showcase in Westfield, Ind.
Blake Carr (Hartland Arrowhead) – who plays for the Under-15/16 team – scored three of the team's four goals at the event, giving him 14 in 19 appearances during the spring portion of the season.
Carr had the lone goal in Wednesday's 1-1 draw against Texans SC Houston, finishing off a feed from Brady Lenius (Sturgeon Bay) in the first half. The Nationals created several other great chances, but Jaime Colin (Kenosha Tremper), Ryan Machonga (Oregon) and Adrian Roman all saw efforts denied by the woodwork.
A day later, Carr chested down a cross from Antonio Amaya (Muskego) and scored on a volley to open the scoring in a 2-1 victory over Real Colorado. A fine sequence produced the Nationals' final goal of the season Thursday: Daniel Giraldo played a cross in that Roman headed back across the face of goal and Carr buried the shot.
FC Wisconsin lost to Chargers SC 2-1 in their Showcase opener Monday. Sal Gloria's first goal of the season pulled the Nationals level in the 60th minute, but the Florida side found the game-winner in the 73rd.
