The FC Wisconsin Nationals' Under-13/14 team closed out its inaugural season in the best way possible.

The Nationals won all three of their matches at the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Showcase in Westfield, Ind., with Jonathan Hernandez (Milwaukee) and Gianluca DeMartino (Mequon) scoring two goals apiece at the event.

FC Wisconsin beat Everton FC Westchester (N.Y.) and Tampa Bay United (Fla.) by identical 2-1 scorelines on Friday and Saturday, then defeated San Mateo County Star (Calif.) 3-1 on Monday to finish 8-12-6 during the 2013-14 season.

Kamrin Pegues (Milwaukee) opened the scoring in the 43rd minute against Everton FC Westchester, firing a shot upper 90 to record his fourth goal of the season. Hernandez finished off a pass from Dominic Lambo to double the lead in the 56th.

The next day Payton Aranda (Lake Geneva) picked up his first goal, heading in a cross from Cameron Eccleston (Brown Deer), and Hernandez added the second from the spot against Tampa Bay United after Will Hamilton (Lake Geneva) drew a penalty kick.

In Monday's finale, Trey Goodnetter (Elm Grove) scored the Nationals' 39th-minute opener off a feed from Ben Leas (Elm Grove) and DeMartino made it 3-0 with goals in the 44th and 56th – he finished the season with five goals. Pegues set up DeMartino's second goal.

Hernandez led the team with 12 goals in 25 appearances on the season, while Mark Orlowski (Waukesha) scored nine in 26 games and Goodnetter had eight in 26.

  • Wisconsin teams had a tough weekend at the U.S. Youth Soccer Region II Presidents Cup, with four sides combining for one win and one draw at the competition in Overland Park, Kan. The Neenah Fire Under-16 boys team got off to a great start, routing FC Porto of Kansas Dragons 10-0 in their opener Thursday. But the Fire dropped a pair of 1-0 decisions to teams from Kentucky and Ohio to finish 1-2-0 at the tournament. The Sheboygan County United Under-14 girls posted the other result for the state representatives, earning a 0-0 draw with Indiana's SCSA Red Rage to close out the competition on Saturday after falling in each of their first two matches. Two other boys teams, the Port Breakers Under-14 and the Central FC-Respect Under-16 sides, also played in the regional event.
