Norwegian women's team Avaldsnes has been scoring a lot lately – the Toppserien side has piled up 23 goals in its past four matches in all competitions – and last Monday, Katie Bethke (Eau Claire Memorial) got into the action.

Bethke scored her first two goals of the season as Avaldsnes blitzed visiting Grand Bodø 10-0 in a league match in the country's top division.

Avaldsnes (4-2-2), which is fifth in the 12-team Toppserien, roared out to a 6-0 halftime lead against last-place Grand Bodø. Bethke scored in the 46th, then made it 9-0 in the 59th and sat out the final 16 minutes – she had played every minute for Avaldsnes this season before being subbed out in the 74th.

  • Apologies for being late on this, but Rosie Malone-Povolny (Marquette) scored the second goal as host Medkila routed Hardhaus 5-0 in a second-round match of the NM Cupen in Norway back on June 4. Bethke and Avaldsnes also advanced in the knockout tournament, which continues in August.
  • Michele Dalton (UW) posted her fifth shutout of the season Sunday as Kvarnsvedens IK tied host Älta IF 0-0 in Elitettan play in Sweden. Kvarnsvedens (7-2-2) is second in the 14-team second-tier league. On Twitter: @MicheleDalton18
  • Alex Horwath (UW) turned aside all three shots he faced for the clean sheet as visiting Ljungskile SK beat Husqvarna FF 3-0 on Saturday in a Superettan match in Sweden. Horwath has six shutouts in 12 appearances this year for Ljungskile (6-2-4), which is third in the 16-team second division. On Twitter: @AlexHorwath
  • Also in the Superettan, Matt Pyzdrowski (Marquette) made five saves as Ängelholms FF blanked host IK Sirius FK 0-0  Sunday, picking up his third clean sheet of the season – all in the past four matches. On Twitter: @MattPyzdrowski
  • Patrick McLain (Eau Claire Memorial) made four saves for his second shutout of the season as the Orange County Blues blanked the host Charlotte Eagles 1-0 in a USL PRO match Friday night. On Twitter: @PatrickMcLain24
  • Vancouver Whitecaps center back and and captain Jay DeMerit (Green Bay/Bay Port) will be sidelined for at least six weeks after suffering a torn tendon in his left ankle during the team's 3-3 draw against the Philadelphia Union on June 7. The 34-year-old DeMerit, who has logged 924 minutes in starting 11 of the team's 13 Major League Soccer games, won't have surgery and instead will rehabilitate the injury. MLS is on its World Cup break, and the Whitecaps are off until June 25. On Twitter: @D6MERIT
