Blake Carr (Hartland Arrowhead) closed out his goal-filled spring with the FC Wisconsin Nationals Under-15/16 team with – what else – goals.

Carr had a hat trick as the Nationals wrapped up their 2013-14 season in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy with a 4-4 draw against the Chicago Fire on Saturday in Bridgeview, Ill.

Todor Atlija (Franklin) scored the other goal for FC Wisconsin, which finished 10-11-6 and eighth in the 13-team Mid-America Division of the Central Conference.

Carr opened the scoring in the 7th minute, and his second of the day in the 50th gave the Nationals a 3-0 lead. He capped his hat trick in the 65th, giving him a team-best 11 goals on the season – all of them coming in 16 matches during the spring.

Atlija and Tunji Akindes (Kenosha Tremper) each finished with 10 goals, meaning the trio accounted for more than 70 percent of the team's goals (31 of 44).

The Fire scored all four of their goals in a 16-minute stretch, including the equalizer in the 71st to earn the tie.

Meanwhile, the FC Wisconsin Under-13/14 side dropped a 3-2 decision to the Fire despite goals by Mark Orlowski (Waukesha) and Luca DeMartino (Mequon).

After the Fire scored in the 13th and 14th minutes, Orlowski quickly answered for the Nationals with his ninth goal of the season in the 18th. Kenosha's Vitalis Takawira Jr., the son of the former Zimbabwe international and Major League Soccer player of the same name, restored Chicago's two-goal lead with his eighth goal in the 35th.

DeMartino pulled one back again, scoring his third of the season in the 40th, but FC Wisconsin (5-12-6) couldn't find an equalizer.

The Under-13/14 team then will close out its inaugural season with three games this weekend in Westfield, Ind. And a combined team, made up of the Nationals' Under-17 and Under-16 players, also will play three matches at the Development Academy Showcase from June 23 to 26 in Westfield.

  • Several players with Wisconsin ties are on teams that qualified for the Development Academy playoffs. In the Under-17/18 division, Marquette recruit Martin Alba (1 goal in 27 appearances) and incoming University of Wisconsin freshman goalkeeper Adrian Remeniuk (13 starts) are part of the Chicago Fire side that finished 19-3-5 and won the Central Conference Mid-America Division title. Muskego's Leki Prpa (1 goal in 22) and UW recruits Michael Catalano (6 in 15) and Grant Stoneman (1 in 24) are teammates on the Chicago Magic PSG side that went 14-7-6 to claim third in the Mid-America. Meanwhile, Muskego's Luka Prpa – Leki's younger brother – is tied for second on the Magic PSG Under-15/16 team (17-9-1) with 10 goals in 27 appearances. Thirty-two of the 79 USSDA teams in each of the two age groups earned berths in the playoffs, which are June 23 to 27 in Westfield, Ind.
  • Four state teams are headed to the U.S. Youth Soccer Region II Presidents Cup, which starts Thursday in Overland Park, Kan. Two of those sides are in seperate groups in the Under-16 boys competition, the Neenah Fire and Central FC-Respect from the Stevens Point area, while the Port Breakers (Under-14 boys) and Sheboygan County United White Fury (Under-14 girls) round out the Wisconsin contingent. Teams will play three pool matches, and group winners will square off in Sunday's finals. Regional champions earn berths in the National Presidents Cup from July 10 to 13 in Greenville, S.C.
