The final three Wisconsin State Championships were decided Wednesday night in the Milwaukee area, with SC Waukesha winning two more titles to add to its impressive performance in this season's tournaments.

SC Waukesha sides won the rescheduled Under-16 and Under-19 boys State Cup finals, giving the club titles in four of the nine divisions contested this spring and five out of the 13 overall this season.

In the Under-16 match at Marquette's Valley Fields in Milwaukee, SC Waukesha Blue got past Croatian Eagles Red 2-1. Meanwhile, SC Waukesha Pumas topped Appleton SC 3-1 in the Under-19 final at Time Warner Cable Stadium at Uihlein Soccer Park.

Also Wednesday night, David Reyes scored in the 53rd minute and Elian Haddock posted the clean sheet as Bavarian SC's Blue team slipped past Madison FC Gold 1-0 in the Under-14 boys championship in Menomonee Falls.

The three finals originally were scheduled for Sunday afternoon at Scheels USA Youth Sports Complex in Appleton, but were postponed due to inclement weather.

All 13 of this season's State Cup champions – the four divisions involving high school-aged girls were held last fall – earned berths in the U.S. Youth Soccer Region II Championships, which are June 21 to 25 in Beavercreek, Ohio.

Bavarians and North Shore United each had two state champions in the Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association tournaments, while Elm Grove SC, Fusion, Rush Wisconsin and Strike FC Wisconsin had one apiece.

Other state teams also will play at regionals – berths can be acquired based on results in the Midwest Regional League, and wild card spots are available in some age groups.

  • Five teams captured Wisconsin Presidents Cup titles Sunday at the Scheels USA Youth Sports Complex and qualified for the Region II tournament, which is June 12 to 15 in Overland Park, Kan.  The state champions were Central FC (Under-13 boys), Port Breakers (Under-14 boys), Neenah Fire (Under-16 boys), FC Menasha (Under-17 boys) and the Sheboygan County United White Fury (Under-14 girls). U.S. Youth Soccer created the Presidents Cup in 2008 to provide teams that don't participate in its National Championship Series – which includes the State Cup – the opportunity to play in state, regional and national competition.
  • Bavarian SC and North Shore United are teaming up to offer a joint fall-season program for high school-aged boys. The program, called the Wisconsin Alliance, will run from late July to October and focus on "high-level technical and tactical training," according to a joint news release. Players will train four times per week at the clubs' recently opened turf fields and play in the College Search Kickoff tournament in Muscatine, Iowa, in addition to friendlies against several Development Academy clubs, including St. Louis Scott Gallagher, Chicago Magic PSG and Minnesota's Shattuck-St. Mary's, and other regional clubs. "This has been brought up to us by players over the last couple of years," NSU director of coaching Joe Hammes said in a news release. "Players are expressing interest in an alternative to the scholastic environment."
