The draw for the U.S. Adult Soccer Association Region II Amateur Cup was held earlier this week, and the Croatian Eagles – the lone state team in the field – learned their foes for group play at the tournament in Westfield, Ind.

The state champion Croatians will face Illinois' AAC Eagles at 6 p.m. June 13 and a team from Louisville, Kent., at 10 a.m. June 14.

The field includes three three-team groups, with the group champions and the top runner-up advancing to the semifinals, which are set for 7 a.m. June 15. The regional final is scheduled for 11 a.m. June 15, with the winner advancing to the USASA National Cup Finals from July 25 to 27 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Milwaukee Sport Club, which lost to the Croatians 3-1 after extra time in the Wisconsin Amateur Cup final on May 17, also earned a regional berth. However, the team decided to decline the invitation because of roster concerns – several players had previous obligations that weekend, while other players are battling injuries, according to Sport Club player Steve Sperl (Wauwatosa West/UW-Milwaukee).

  • After one of its semifinal matches was postponed by weather Sunday night, the Madison Soccer Association is pushing back its Division 1 final. Second-seeded Paradigm (7-5-2) and No. 3 seed Madison United (6-6-2) will play their delayed game at 7 p.m. Sunday at Goodman Pitch at Verona's Reddan Soccer Park. The winner will take on two-time defending champion and top-seeded Madison Fire (11-1-3) in the final – the MSA website doesn't list a date for that match, but several Fire players said it is tentatively scheduled for June 13. The Division 2 playoff schedule remains the same, with top-seeded Epic FC (8-0-4) playing Bulldogs (6-5-1) at 6 p.m. and second-seeded Vilas Rangers (7-3-1) taking on Madison Hotspur (7-3-1) at 8 p.m. in Friday's semifinals and the final set for 5 p.m. Sunday.
  • University of Wisconsin and Dayton Dutch Lions midfielder Rose Lavelle was named the USL W-League Player of the Week after putting together what a news release called "one of the most dominant weeks in recent (league) history." Lavelle, a regular for the U.S. Under-20 women's national team, had a hand in all seven of Dayton's goals in two matches: She scored the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over the Charlotte Lady Eagles on May 26, then added four goals and set up the other two goals in a 6-2 rout of the Atlanta Silverbacks six days later.
