WSCA girls state polls: June 2, 2014

Not much changed in the final Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association girls soccer rankings of the season in divisions 2, 3 and 4 – all three No. 1 teams in those divisions remained the same this week and just two new teams moved in the polls.

But it was a different story entirely in the Division 1 rankings.

Three teams – Schofield D.C. Everest, Kimberly and Neenah – returned to the poll and Milwaukee DSHA, which had topped the divisional rankings all spring, dropped out of the top five in voting done by a panel of coaches.

Menomonee Falls (19-2-0) rose two spots to take over at No. 1, replacing Greater Metro Conference rival DSHA. Falls won its final six matches of the regular season, all by shutout, since a 4-1 loss at D.C. Everest on May 17.

Madison West (10-2-3) jumped up three places to second in the final poll, despite falling to Sun Prairie 1-0 – however, the Regents handed DSHA (13-5-2) its third loss in six games with a 2-1 decision in a non-conference match Saturday.

No. 3 Everest (20-3-0), meanwhile, has rattled off 11 consecutive victories, conceding just three goals in that span. No. 4 Kimberly (16-2-2) and No. 5 Neenah (16-2-1) shared the Fox Valley Association title with 8-0-1 records – both teams posted one-goal wins over then-No. 4 Appleton North in league play over the past two weeks.

Whitefish Bay (Division 2), Waukesha Catholic Memorial (Division 3) and Racine St. Catherine's (Division 4) continued atop their respective divisions. Catholic Memorial was the top-ranked Division 3 team for the entire season.

The other newcomers in the final polls were De Pere (14-4-3), fourth in Division 2, and Wrightstown (16-1-1), which is fifth in Division 3 – the Tigers were unbeaten in their final 10 regular-season games (7-0-3) with seven clean sheets following a 2-1 loss to Freedom on May 9.
