The 18-year-old Novakovich, who signed with English club Reading earlier this year, scored on a volley off a cross from right back Kris Reaves just before halftime to cut the Hammerheads' lead to 3-1. The striker then converted a penalty kick early in the second half to pull the U.S. team within a goal, but Wilmington slotted home its own penalty in the 73rd to regain its two-goal cushion.
The Under-20 team, which also included Marquette's Louis Bennett II (Shorewood), finished 1-2-0 during the camp. The Americans dropped a 2-1 decision to the Carolina RailHawks of the North American Soccer League on Tuesday, then posted a 1-0 victory over the RailHawks' Under-23 team – which plays in the National Premier Soccer League – on Thursday.
