The UW-Platteville men's team, which shares the title of  Wisconsin's oldest college soccer program, announced plans to celebrate its 50th anniversary next fall.

The Pioneers will welcome alumni back the weekend of Sept. 13 and 14.

Coach Enzo Fuschino's team takes on Macalester (Minn.) in a non-conference match at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 13, with dinner to follow the game at Pioneer Stadium. The next day, breakfast will be served at the stadium before the Alumni Game.

Marquette, which like Platteville started its program in 1964, also is celebrating its 50th anniversary this season. Here's a look at when each of the state's current four-year college men's programs started:

  • The University of Wisconsin men's soccer team hasn't officially announced its 2014 recruiting class, but the list of players who have committed to Badgers coach John Trask has impressed College Soccer News. The website ranked UW's incoming class as the 11th best in the country in it's Top 40 Recruiting Classes. Noting that the Badgers lost a lot of talented players, including the Big Ten Conference's offensive and defensive players of the year in Tomislav Zadro and A.J. Cochran, CSN wrote: "A solid 2014 recruiting class was a high priority and Trask got it." Marquette, meanwhile, checked in at No. 29 on the list, with the Golden Eagles' ranking dropping last week when U.S. youth international striker Andrija Novakovich (Muskego) signed with Reading FC of England's Championship. Still, "Marquette will enter the 2014 season on the short list of teams that have the potential to make a run at the College Cup," CSN wrote. CSN article | 2014 men's recruiting
  • Former assistant Jillian Sauer (Stevens Point) will take over the Marian women's program. Sauer, the fifth coach in Sabres' history, succeeds Jason Murphy (Appleton), who was named coach at UW-La Crosse in February. A former midfielder at NCAA Division II St. Cloud State (Minn.), Sauer was a graduate assistant at Lakeland for two years before joining the Marian staff in 2012. The Sabres were 10-9-1 overall and finished fourth in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference last fall with a 7-3-1 record, losing to Aurora (Ill.) 3-1 in the NACC tournament semifinals.
  • Jessica Griggs is the new women's coach at Northland College in Ashland. Griggs, who starred at Dickinson (Pa.) from 2003 to '06, has been an assistant at Division II Shippensburg (Pa.) for the past four seasons – the Raiders earned their first NCAA tournament berth last fall. The Lumberjills finished 9-8-3 overall and 5-7-2 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference in 2013 under Northland men's coach Olaf Kirsten, who served as interim women's coach after Amanda Evans stepped down.
  • Niki Brooks, who was an assistant for the UW-Green Bay women's program in 2011 and '12, was named to the same role at New Mexico State.
  • Alev Kelter played soccer and hockey at UW after playing on U.S. youth national teams in both sports, completing her soccer career with the Badgers last fall. Now she's excelling at another sport. Kelter earned a Residency contract with USA Rugby earlier this year and started all five matches for the Women's Eagles Sevens as they finished 11th at the Guangzhou Sevens tournament last weekend in China.
