Ängelholms FF didn't advance to the quarterfinals of the Swedish Cup, but the club finished out group play in the best possible fashion Saturday.

Defender Eric Pothast (Marquette) scored the first two goals of his professional career and goalkeeper Matt Pyzdrowski (Marquette) posted his second clean sheet in three games as Ängelholms thumped host Degerfors IF 3-0.

Pothast, playing in just his third pro match, converted off set pieces in the 54th and 62nd minutes to close out the scoring. Ängelholms finished 1-1-1 in Group 1 play, with its loss coming to group winner Malmö FF – the eight group winners moved on to the quarterfinals of the tournament, which started last season.

Ängelholms opens play in the second-tier Superettan on April 6 against Östers IF.

  • Sarah Hagen (Appleton North/UW-Milwaukee) scored the first goal as Bayern Munich blanked host SC Freiburg 2-0 in a Frauen-Bundesliga match Sunday in Germany. Hagen – fresh off earning her first two caps for the U.S. women's national team last week at the Algarve Cup in Portugal – put the visitors ahead in the 38th minute, running on to a long, switched through ball, beating the goalkeeper at the top of the box and sending a left-footed shot into the vacant net in the 38th minute. She ranks fourth in the Frauen-Bundesliga with nine goals in 12 league matches for Bayern Munich (7-3-3), which is in fourth place in the 12-team top division.
