Four players with state ties are on the initial 100-player list of participants for the USL PRO combine, which is Jan. 23 to 26 in Bradenton, Fla.

Three of the Wisconsin players are defenders: Paul Dillon, who completed his career at Marquette last fall; Alexander Tozer (Whitefish Bay Dominican), the son of Milwaukee Wave coach Keith Tozer; and Greg Rosenthal (UW-Milwaukee), who has played professionally in Sweden the past three years with fourth-division Gamla Uppsala (2011 and '12) and third-tier Valsta Syrianska (2013).

Goalkeeper Bryce Boyd (Milwaukee Marquette/UW-Milwaukee) also will be part of the combine for the league, which is recognized by the U.S. Soccer Federation as the country's third division.

  • A quartet of players with Wisconsin ties will be available for the Houston Dash to select in the National Women's Soccer League expansion draft Friday. FC Kansas City didn't protect midfielder-defender Katie Kelly (Marquette), midfielder-forward Casey Loyd (Cedarburg) or defender Lauren Sesselmann (Green Bay Notre Dame) – the Canadian national team regular reportedly is poised to sign overseas. The Chicago Red Stars opted not to protect the rights to midfielder-forward Lindsay Tarpley (Madison), who hasn't played since May 2011 after tearing the ACL in her right knee for the second time in three years. Chicago did, however, protect captain and midfielder Leslie Osborne (Brookfield/Waukesha Catholic Memorial).
  • Wave forward Carlos Munoz and defender Pablo were named to the MISL Team of the Week for the eighth week of the season. Munoz had a hat trick as Milwaukee doubled up the Syracuse Silver Knights 20-10 in its annual New Year Eve's Day game, while Pablo had three goals in Friday's 13-11 win over the host St. Louis Ambush. Defender Victor Quiroz and midfielder Marcio Leite earned honorable mention on the weekly team for the first-place Wave (7-1).
  • The Wave have several events planned this weekend as they celebrate their 30th anniversary season. A meet-and-greet session is scheduled for 7 to 10 p.m. Friday at the Hyatt Regency Polaris Room – admission is free and there will be a cash bar. On Saturday, the Alumni Game kicks off at 3:30 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Arena, followed by the Wave's Major Indoor Soccer League match against the Rochester Lancers (3-8) at 6 p.m. A ticket to the Wave game is required for entry to the Alumni Game; fans are allowed to leave the arena between games and re-enter. And after the game, current players and alumni will be at a postgame party at Major Goolsby's across the street from U.S. Cellular Arena.
  • The Cincy Saints (3-6) of the second-tier Professional Arena Soccer League named former Wave defender Chris Morman their interim coach for the remainder of the 2013-14 season after parting ways with Matt Breines.
