UW-Green Bay women's soccer assistant coach Mike Davis has been hospitalized since late October, spending much of that time in intensive care, as he battles an infection and complications that have led to two heart surgeries.

Davis was admitted to Aurora BayCare Medical Center on Oct. 23, according to Phoenix coach Trevor Warren.

He needed to have open-heart surgery and had a heart valve replaced, then developed complications and was moved to Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee, where he underwent another surgery on Wednesday. Warren reported that Davis was able to get up and walk around on Thursday.

While Davis has health insurance, he still faces large bills for medication and other out-of-pocket expenses, and Warren set up an online fundraising page for people to help. As of Friday night, 97 people had donated a total of $5,830 – Warren's goal is raise $10,000.

Davis, who turned 26 during his hospital stay, recently completed his first season at Green Bay following a stint as a graduate assistant at St. Ambrose (Iowa). A native of Manchester, England, he also was an assistant for the Quad City Eagles in the Women's Premier Soccer League last summer and played for the Eagles' National Premier Soccer League team the past two years.

The center back was part of the Macclesfield Town youth program and the Manchester Colleges team in England, then played at NCAA Division III Berry (Ga.) from 2007 to '10 and with Forest City London in the USL Premier Development League in 2011. Davis also spent a season playing in Australia's Brisbane Regional Leagues.
