Katie Bethke (Eau Claire Memorial) and Avaldsnes played Stabæk tight once again, but couldn't stop the Toppserien champions from completing a domestic double.
Melissa Wiik scored on a header in the 34th minute and that stood up as the lone goal as Stabæk tipped Avaldsnes 1-0 in the NM Cupen final Saturday in Norway.
Stabæk went 17-1-4 to win the Toppserien and took four points from their two matches against fourth-place Avaldsnes (10-9-3), winning 5-1 back on June 15 and playing a 0-0 draw in a regular-season finale Nov. 2.
Bethke played all 90 minutes Saturday and was one of nine foreign players in the Avaldsnes starting lineup for the Cup final, a fact that was mentioned in most media reports about the game. All 11 Stabæk starters were Norwegians.
The 25-year-old Bethke started all 27 matches for Avaldsnes in all competitions this year, playing all but 31 minutes, and finished with three goals in her first season with the club.
