Prep notes: State sides collect NSCAA Team Academic Awards

Sixteen state teams earned Team Academic Awards from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America for the 2012-13 school year, led by Fond du Lac and Kenosha Christian Life.

The Cardinals and Eagles were among the 47 schools across the country that had both their boys and girls teams claim the award, which was presented to teams with grade-point averages of 3.25 or better for the academic year.

The Menomonee Falls girls team had the best GPA of state sides with a 3.97, followed closely by the Christian Life girls team at 3.91. New Berlin Eisenhower had the top GPA among the six Wisconsin boys team honored with a 3.61 average.

  • WIAA Division 1 state champion Muskego (22-4-2) moved up one spot to No. 14 in this week's NSCAA Top 25, while runner-up Green Bay Preble (23-3-2) continues to receive votes. The Warriors are second and the Hornets are fifth in the NSCAA Region VI rankings, which also include Hartland Arrowhead (19-1-2) at No. 8, Division 2 state champion Oregon (16-3-3) at No. 11 and Division 2 runner-up Cedarburg (15-4-3) at No. 12. The final NSCAA polls of the season will be released Tuesday.
