Patrick McLain (Eau Claire Memorial) won't be back for a third season with Chivas USA next year.

The Major League Soccer club announced Thursday that it had declined to pick up the 2014 option on the goalkeeper's contract, making McLain a free agent.

The 25-year-old made his MLS debut on May 5, coming on to replace Dan Kennedy after the starter was sent off in a match against Sporting Kansas City. He also started the May 12 match against the Portland Timbers with Kennedy suspended.

A former standout at Cal Poly, McLain also was a regular in the MLS Reserve League, posting a 2.22 goals-against average and one shutout in 810 minutes.

  • Ian Bennett was named the Major Indoor Soccer League Player of the Week after scoring five goals, including the overtime game-winner, in the Milwaukee Wave's 23-21 victory over the Missouri Comets in a season opener last Saturday. Midfielders Luan Oliveira and Marcio Leite earned honorable mention on the MISL Team of the Week for the Wave, who play at the Baltimore Blast tonight and the expansion Pennsylvania Roar on Sunday.
