Welcome to The Sweeper, our new occasional feature on Wisconsin Soccer Central. We sweep up interesting news and highlights from soccer across the world and bring them to you.

For many Americans, Soccer Made in Germany was their first – and for a long time only – exposure to European soccer.

The hour-long show featuring highlights from West German matches ran from 1976 to '88 on PBS stations across the country. Soccer Made in Germany host Toby Charles would certainly appreciate these two recent goals from Germany, each creative in their own way.

If you're looking to get a quick lead and you're OK with taking a big risk early, try this approach used by RasenBallsport Leipzig.

They lined up in your standard 2-0-8 formation for the opening kickoff of a third-division match last month, and those eight players bombing forward were too much for Stuttgart II to handle. RB Leipzig scored just 7 seconds in and went on to a 3-1 victory.

A few weeks later in the fourth-tier Regionalliga West, Rot-Weiss Essen pulled off an impressive free kick sequence as they rallied from two goals down to draw Fortuna Duesseldorf II.

Six players surrounded the ball just outside the box. Five of them feigned confusion about who would take the set piece, setting the stage for the sixth man.
