The newly renamed FC Wisconsin Nationals open the U.S. Soccer Development Academy 2013-14 season on Saturday, playing host to Chicago's Sockers FC in Germantown.

This is the Nationals' seventh season in the Development Academy, but the USSDA charter member previously played under the FC Milwaukee name.

Saturday's Under-17/18 match is set for 5 p.m., followed by the Under-15/16 game at 7 p.m. The Nationals' entry in the new Under-13/14 division is scheduled to make its debut at 3:30 p.m. Sunday against Sockers FC.

The weekend matches are the first of eight games scheduled this fall for the Nationals, with 16 matches slated for the spring portion of the season.

• All five FC Wisconsin Eclipse teams are at home this weekend, welcoming Vardar (Mich.) and the Michigan Hawks to Germantown for Elite Clubs National League matches. The club's Under-15 through Under-18 teams opened league play with losses at sister club Eclipse Select (Ill.) on Sept. 8, following three matches in Colorado to start the season. • Group play for the four high school-aged girls divisions of the 2014 Wisconsin State Championships wraps up Saturday at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee, with the semifinals Sunday at the same location. Seventeen teams won both of their first two pool matches last weekend – three of Saturday's group finales pit those teams against one another. • Two large tournaments kicked off Friday, both hosted by facilities that recently opened artificial turf stadium fields. The North Shore United Fall Classic in Cedarburg and Port Washington has 172 teams, while the Reddan Toe Bash in Verona has 148 teams.
