Sometimes it's difficult to figure out polls – especially ones that rank high school teams on a national level.

Case in point: The Milwaukee Marquette boys soccer team.

The Hilltoppers (5-0-2 heading into this week) won both of their matches last week, posting 3-1 victories over two previously unbeaten teams in Menomonee Falls and St. Viator (Ill.), but plummeted eight spots to No. 13 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll.

Kettle Moraine (8-1-1) also dropped two places in the poll to No. 21, despite winning its three matches by a combined 12-0 scoreline.

Meanwhile, Marquette moved up six spots to No. 19 in this week's Student Sports Fab 50.

  • The Hilltoppers slipped one place to No. 2 in the NSCAA Region VI rankings, which also include No. 3 Kettle Moraine, No. 7 Brookfield East, No. 9 Hartland Arrowhead and No. 15 Neenah. Student Sports' Wisconsin rankings, meanwhile, feature Marquette followed by Arrowhead and Neenah.
  • Junior Nick Steidemann set up A.J. Breitbach's go-ahead goal in the 53rd minute and added an insurance goal on a penalty kick in the 70th as host Oregon rallied past Milton 3-1 on Tuesday night to extend its Southern Badger Conference winning streak to 27. The Panthers, who trailed at halftime, haven't lost in conference play since a 2-1 double-overtime setback against Madison Edgewood back on Sept. 23, 2008.
  • In another Southern Badger game Tuesday night, junior midfielder Henry Vennard scored in the final minute of overtime as Madison Edgewood outlasted Monona Grove 1-0 to win its first match at its new home field, Goodman Pitch at Reddan Soccer Park in Verona.
