Katie Bethke (Eau Claire Memorial) and Avaldsnes are on a roll.

Bethke scored her third goal of the season on a free kick in the 32nd minute as Avaldsnes beat host Sandviken 1-0 on Saturday for their fourth straight win in Norway's Toppserien.

Avaldsnes (7-6-2), which was promoted to the Toppserien after winning the First Division last season, is sixth in the 12-team league.

On Tuesday, Bethke tweeted that she re-signed with Avaldsnes for the 2014 season.

  • Defender Lauren Sesselmann (Green Bay Notre Dame) played 105 minutes, but No. 3 seed Portland Thorns FC erased an early two-goal deficit and topped second-seeded FC Kansas City 3-2 in a National Women's Soccer League semifinal Saturday in Shawnee Mission, Kan. Sesselmann was subbed out for the final 15-minute period of extra time as FCKC (11-7-5) switched to a more attacking formation in search of an equalizer, Casey Loyd (Cedarburg) played the final 46 minutes for the home side and created some scoring chances and defender Katie Kelly (Marquette) was an unused sub. Portland will play at the top-seeded Western New York Flash (11-4-8) in the inaugural NWSL final Saturday in Rochester, N.Y. – the Flash blanked Sky Blue 2-0 in the other semifinal.
  • Sarah Hagen (Appleton North/UW-Milwaukee) has scored three goals in recent preseason matches for Bayern Munich, finding the net twice in a 5-0 rout of FC Zurich and collecting the lone goal in a 2-1 loss to TSG Thanhausen. Bayern Munich starts Frauen-Bundesliga play Sept. 7 against VfL Wolfsburg, which won the league, German Cup and UEFA Women's Champions League titles last season.
  • Defender Andrew Ribeiro (Green Bay Notre Dame) was an unused sub as the fourth-seeded Harrisburg City Islanders lost to the No. 5 seed Charlotte Eagles 3-1 in a USL PRO quarterfinal match Saturday in Harrisburg, Penn. The City Islanders finished 14-12-2 in all competitions this season.
  • Sandnes Ulf striker Tosaint Ricketts (UW-Green Bay) has been sidelined for the Norwegian club recently because of a pulled groin.
