Games between Wisconsin all-star teams and sides from neighboring states once were staples on the annual amateur soccer calendar.

Wisconsin Soccer Leagues are bringing back that tradition later this month.

An all-star team of players from the WSL Major Division will face an Illinois All-Star team on Saturday, Aug. 24. The match will be played in Wisconsin, at a site to be determined, with kickoff scheduled for 5 p.m.

Alex Toth of the Croatian Eagles and Dave Scherer of Milwaukee Sport Club, which won the inaugural 2012-13 WSL Major championship last month, will coach the Wisconsin All-Star team.

  • The Madison Soccer Association's spring-only season concludes Wednesday with the Division 1 final between top-seeded Paradigm (9-2-0) and No. 3 seed Madison Fire (6-1-3). Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. at Warner Park Field 1. The teams split their regular-season meetings, with the Fire winning 1-0 in a season opener on April 28 and Paradigm prevailing 3-1 on June 16. The MSA will return to a fall-spring format, with the 2013-14 season expected to start within the next month.
  • The Northern Wisconsin Soccer League kicks off the fall portion of its season after a month-long break. Green Bay Team Miller and Green Bay's Yale United (6-0-1) are tied atop the Division I standings, while Kaukauna's Eclipse FC (5-0-2) has a five-point lead in Division II. The playoffs start Oct. 19 and 20, with the finals set for Oct. 27. Standings, schedules and results on the NWSL website
  • United Serbian SC will play host to the 22nd annual Srbijada, the North American Serbian tournament, from Aug. 29 to 31, 2014. It will be the fourth time the event has been held in Milwaukee, following 1994, 2000 and '04. This year's tournament is Aug. 31 to Sept. 1 in Akron, Ohio – United Serbians are the defending champions, having beaten Florida's FK Pingvini in last year's final in Paterson, N.J.
  • The 50th annual Croatian National Soccer Tournament is Aug. 30 to Sept. 1 in Waukegan, Ill. – the Croatian Eagles were drawn into Group D along with New York Croatia and Canadian clubs Windsor Croatia and Adria Sudbury. The Croatian Eagles also are one of five clubs to enter a team in the women's division for the tournament. The Franklin club is scheduled to next play host to the event in 2017.
