Andrija Novakovich's summer full of travel will continue before his senior year of high school starts.

The 6-foot-4 striker from Muskego went to Japan for the Niigata Tournament with the U.S. Under-17 national team in early July, then made the trip to Northern Ireland late in the month with the Under-18 team for the Milk Cup.

Now he's headed to Nike's World Headquarters in Beaverton, Ore.

Novakovich is one of 64 players between the ages of 15 and 17 selected for the inaugural U.S. Soccer National Combine. The event is part of the expanded Training Center program that U.S. Soccer launched earlier this year and is designed to evaluate and develop players for the Under-18 national team pool.

U.S. Soccer scouting director Tony Lepore and other members of the youth national team coaching staff will lead the five-day camp, which starts Friday. The 64 players were selected by U.S. Soccer scouts based on performances at training centers and local combines and other events, including Development Academy events.

Novakovich starred for the Chicago Magic PSG Under-15/16 team in the Development Academy last spring, scoring 22 goals in 19 matches – he tied for third in the nation in goals, and his average of 1.16 per game led the country. Last fall, Novakovich scored 41 goals for Muskego High School and was named the Gatorade Wisconsin Player of the Year.

  • Meanwhile, Whitefish Bay's Camille Davre (FC Wisconsin Eclipse) was at Nike World Headquarters for the id2 National Selection Training Camp for players born in 1998, a four-day event that wrapped up Monday. The camp was held in conjunction with the Elite Clubs National League/id2 National Training Camp, which included players from the 1995, 1996, and 1997 age groups. Players were selected based on their performances at id2 training camps throughout the country over the past year. Davre was a standout for FC Wisconsin Eclipse's Under-14 team, which went 10-4-4 and finished third in the ECNL Midwest Conference.
