Aug. 3, 1973: Milwaukee's Jerry Panek earned his first cap for the U.S. national team, playing the full 90 minutes as the Americans lost to his native Poland 1-0 on an 87th-minute goal at Soldier Field in Chicago. Panek would claim two more caps for the U.S., both coming in the next nine days also against Poland on Aug. 10 and 12.
