Six players from state schools – four from Marquette and two from the University of Wisconsin – earned spots on the TopDrawerSoccer.com Preseason Best XI teams for NCAA Division I men's and women's soccer.

Marquette junior goalkeeper Charlie Lyon led the state contingent on the men's team, making the second team. Lyon had a 0.78 goals-against average and posted 10 shutouts in playing every minute for the Golden Eagles last fall.

Teammates Axel Sjoberg and Bryan Ciesiulka were third-team selections. Sjoberg was second on the team with eight goals and anchored the backline in front of Lyon as a redshirt freshman in 2012, while Ciesiulka tied for third with five goals and distributed a team-best nine assists during his junior season last fall.

UW defender AJ Cochran, an All-Big Ten Conference center back as a sophomore in 2012, also made the third team.

On the women's side, Marquette senior midfielder Maegan Kelly was a second-team pick. She led the Golden Eagles last year with 13 assists and ranked second with eight goals, and has 29 goals and 29 assists in 68 career appearances.

Incoming UW midfielder Rose Lavelle, an Ohio native who has been a regular with the U.S. Under-20 women's national team, was named to the Preseason Freshman Team.

  • The National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced the creation of NSCAATV.com, an online media channel that will focus on college soccer. The website will stream a weekly college soccer review show Tuesdays at noon, starting Aug. 13, along with a schedule of 10 live Division I men's matches this fall – those are in addition to the NAIA Game of the Week series the NSCAA previously announced. NSCAATV.com also will show selected sessions from the organization's annual Summer Symposium in August and Convention in January and events such as the High School Soccer Showcase in December, in addition to interactive chats with coaches and other coaching education material. The first live broadcast will be Alexi Lalas' keynote speech Thursday night at the Summer Symposium. A panel discussion on player development will air live Friday night – the panelists include legendary Milwaukee coach Bob Gansler, former U.S. national teamer Tony Sanneh (UW-Milwaukee) and former UW men's assistant Ian Barker. Broadcasts start at 6 p.m. each night.
