After missing the first 10 matches of the season because of a broken bone in her foot, Shannon Smyth (Mequon/Milwaukee DSHA) could return to action this weekend when the Toppserien season resumes.

Smyth, who broke the fifth metatarsal in her foot during a preseason match, wrote in a Twitter message Tuesday that she is back in full training and is hoping to get back on the field Saturday when 10th-place Amazon Grimstad (1-6-3) plays host to eighth-place Avaldsnes as Norway's top league starts again after a break for the European Women's Championships.

The 26-year-old Smyth, who plays for the Republic of Ireland national team, has 10 goals in 43 appearances for Amazon Grimstad over the past three seasons.

  • Aaron Nichols (UW), who signed with Ljungskile SK earlier this month, wasn't in the lineup for the Swedish second-division side when the Superettan team resumed its season Monday because the club hadn't yet received his work permit. Ljungskile, which lost to IFK Värnamo 2-1, plays at Hammarby on Sunday.
  • Dutch second-division club Helmond Sport has teamed up with a local advertising company for a new campaign for the 2013-14 season, which kicks off Friday. The "Our Club" series is aimed at increasing the team's presence in the North Brabant province in the southern part of the country. The poster boy for the first ad is none other than our own Charles Kazlauskas (Milwaukee Thomas More).

  • Calum Mallace (Marquette) talks about his loan from Major League Soccer's Montreal Impact to Minnesota United FC in this video from the North American Soccer League team. Minnesota United (4-6-2), which finished sixth in the NASL Spring season, opens the Fall schedule Saturday at home against the Spring champion Atlanta Silverbacks (6-3-3).
  • The Pennsylvania Roar, based in Reading, have been added to the Major Indoor Soccer League, meaning the league is poised to have at least eight teams for the 2013-14 season. The Roar join the St. Louis Ambush as new MISL entries, along with returnees in the Milwaukee Wave, Chicago Soul, Baltimore Blast, Missouri Comets, Rochester Lancers and Syracuse Silver Knights.
