USL W-League

University of Wisconsin goalkeeper Genevieve Richard's excellent summer continues.

Richard, who will start her junior season with the Badgers next week, was named to the USL W-League All-League Team and is one of four finalists for the league's Goalkeeper of the Year award.

The former Canadian youth international led the W-League with six shutouts in 11 matches for the Laval Comets and ranked second with a 0.545 goals-against average during the regular season.

The Comets (8-1-4) are the top seed for the W-League Championships and face the Carolina Elite Cobras (6-4-1) in a semifinal at 4 p.m. Friday in Bradenton, Fla. The championship and consolation matches are Sunday.

USL PREMIER DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE

UW forward Chris Prince was named to the season's final PDL Team of the Week after scoring two goals in the Chicago Fire's 4-2 victory over the Michigan Bucks on July 17. The win ended up being crucial as the Fire claimed the third and final Great Lakes Division playoff berth on a tiebreaker.

Marquette midfielder Bryan Ciesiulka, who scored twice in the Fire's 4-1 win over the Chicago Inferno in Sunday's regular-season finale, earned honorable mention along with one of his college teammates, Thunder Bay Chill defender Axel Sjoberg. The Chill (12-1-1) took four points from WSA Winnipeg in two matches last weekend to finish with the PDL's best record and will play host to the Central Conference playoffs Saturday and Sunday.
