The teams are set for Friday night's Madison Soccer Association Division 2 final, while the Division 1 final will be a little later than originally scheduled.

Chivas and Sporting 1836, the top two seeds in the five-team Division 2 playoff field, posted one-goal victories over Madison United teams in semifinals Sunday and will meet in the final at 6 p.m. Friday at Warner Park.

The Division 1 semifinals, though, were postponed as thunderstorms moved through the Madison area late Sunday afternoon. No. 1 seed Paradigm will play fourth-seeded Deportivo at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Warner, while second-seeded Madison United will take on No. 3 seed and defending champion Madison Fire in the other semifinal at 8 p.m. Friday at Warner.

That means the Division 1 final, which originally was slated for 8 p.m. Friday, will be moved back. The date and time for that match is yet to be determined, as the two finalists will have to agree to the details.

Top-seeded Chivas (9-1-0) took the lead twice in regulation against No. 4 seed Madison United Over-30s (6-4-1) on Sunday, only to see United pull level through Rahman Aldachach in the 50th and Andrei Khamenka in the 74th. Chivas went ahead again in the 102nd and saw out the remaining 18 minutes of extra time for a 3-2 victory, avenging their lone loss of the season and extending their winning streak to nine.

In the second semifinal, No. 2 seed Sporting 1836 (8-2-0) got a second-half goal to snap a tie in a 2-1 victory over third-seeded Madison United Juniors (6-4-0). The win avenged one of Sporting 1836's losses, a 2-0 decision back on May 12; their other was a 2-0 setback against Chivas in a regular-season finale July 14.

This has been a short season for the MSA, with just matches this spring, before the league returns to a fall-spring championship season starting in the fall.

The Michigan Bucks wore down the Chicago Fire on Tuesday night, surging to a 4-0 victory in a Great Lakes Conference playoff match in Pontiac, Mich.

The second-seeded Bucks (9-3-3) scored all of their goals in the final 25 minutes as they advanced to this weekend's Central Conference tournament in Thunder Bay, Ontario, along with Great Lakes champion Forest City London (10-2-2).

Michigan will face Heartland Division winner – and PDL regular-season champion – Thunder Bay Chill (12-1-1) in the semifinals Saturday, while reigning league champion FC London (10-2-2) plays Heartland runner-up Real Colorado Foxes (9-3-2). The Central final is scheduled for Sunday.

Marquette's Bryan Ciesiulka, Eric Pothast and David Selvaggi and the University of Wisconsin's Trevor Wheeler went the full 90 minutes for the third-seeded Fire (6-9-0) – as did all 11 of their players.

  • Marquette center back Axel Sjoberg was named Thunder Bay's Defensive Player of the Year. Sjoberg anchored a backline that posted seven clean sheets and allowed 10 goals in 14 regular-season matches and also scored four goals.
  • The Chill held North American Soccer League side Minnesota United FC scoreless until the 58th minute, but the professional team still won 4-0 in a friendly Tuesday night in Thunder Bay.
