July 12, 1992: The Madison 56ers won their first U.S. Adult Soccer Association National Amateur Cup, outlasting North Carolina's IFC Greensboro 5-4 on penalty kicks following a 1-1 draw in the final in Indianapolis. Brendan Ozanne (Madison West/UW) gave the 56ers the early lead in the 13th minute before Greensboro equalized in the 55th. Gus Kompier was named tournament MVP for Madison, which routed Los Angeles Ayutla 5-1 in the semifinals.
