The SC Waukesha Blue Under-17 boys team has another matchup against Cincinnati United Premier Crew Juniors Gold.
The teams, who squared off in the U.S. Youth Soccer Region II final two weeks ago, will meet again in a pool finale at the national championships July 26 in Overland Park, Kan.
CUP Crew Juniors Gold thumped SC Waukesha 6-0 in the regional final in Des Moines, Iowa, but the Wisconsin side earned a berth at nationals because the Ohio team already had claimed a spot by virtue of winning its division in the USYS National League this season.
SC Waukesha, the first state boys team to play at the national championships in six years, will open play in Pool A at the tournament on July 23 against California's Santa Clara Sporting and faces Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley United on July 25.
Pool B features Maryland's OBGC Rangers, California's West Coast FC, New Jersey's PDA McGeough and North Carolina's TUSA Gold. The group winners will meet on July 28 for the national championship – no Wisconsin boys team has won a national title, though at least two state sides have advanced to the finals.
Six Wisconsin teams combined for six wins and six draws at last weekend's Region II ODP Championships at Sportscore II in Loves Park, Ill., which featured boys and girls teams for players born between 1996 and '98.
The state's 1996 boys and 1998 girls teams had the best records, both going 2-1-1, while the 1998 boys and 1997 girls each were 1-2-1 on the weekend. The Wisconsin 1996 girls ended up 0-2-2 and the 1997 boys were 0-4-0.
