July 6, 1998: Goalkeeper Scott Coufal (Brookfield East) came on at halftime and the Chicago Fire scored three goals in the final 10 minutes to post a 3-1 victory over the Chicago Stingers of the USISL D-3 Pro League in a U.S. Open Cup third-round match in Arlington Heights, Ill. Coufal, who replaced Zach Thornton (concussion), made five saves - two on Joe Carver that were described as "brilliant" by the Chicago Tribune. The Fire went on to win the double, claiming both MLS Cup and the U.S. Open Cup in their first season.
