Midfielder Alex Megna (Milwaukee Marquette), who left the UW-Milwaukee program last winter, has transferred to Seton Hall.

Megna was the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association Player of the Year and the Gatorade Wisconsin Player of the Year as a senior in 2010. He had two assists in 12 games (10 starts) as a freshman in 2011, but played in just one match for the Panthers last fall.

"Alex is a transfer student who I think is looking to come here and get a chance to really prove himself," Pirates coach Gerson Echeverry said in a news release. "I think he will have a chance to fill in and battle for a chance to play in a defensive midfielder role."

Seton Hall was 6-12-0 overall and 2-6-0 in the Big East Conference last fall, and plays Marquette on Nov. 2 at Valley Fields in Milwaukee.

  • Marquette's Ally Miller (Mequon Homestead) and Bryan Ciesiulka recently were honored as the 2012-13 Big East Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award winners for women's and men's soccer, respectively. The awards recognize academic and athletic achievement as well as community service. Miller, the Big East Defensive Player of the Year last fall, will graduate in December with degrees in advertising and marketing and was a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award – she was the second straight Golden Eagles player to win the award, after Kerry McBride (Milwaukee DSHA) was honored in 2011-12. Ciesiulka has a 3.71 grade-point average majoring in mathematics and education, organized a service event that raised more than $22,000 for the Feed My Starving Children organization and was a second-team All-Big East selection as the Marquette men enjoyed one of the best seasons in their history in 2012.
  • Jodi Huber, a standout for the UW-Whitewater women during the team's first four years as a varsity program, will be one of nine inductees in the Warhawk Hall of Fame this year. Huber scored at least seven goals in each of her four seasons at Whitewater (1992 to '95) and ranks fourth in program history in goals (34) and points (84). Huber and the rest of the Class of 2013 will be honored during the school's football game Nov. 2 and with a ceremony that evening.
