Thunder Bay Chill

The Thunder Bay Chill are the only team in the USL Premier Development League, and two Marquette defenders have played integral parts in that great start.

Axel Sjoberg scored twice as the Chill beat the visiting Springfield Demize 5-2 on Saturday to improve to 9-0-0 on the season, with his second goal assisted by college teammate Paul Dillon in the 51st minute.

Sjoberg, who is second on the team with four goals on the season, was named to the PDL Team of the Week for his performance. Dillon, meanwhile, has two goals and four assists for Thunder Bay.

  • University of Wisconsin forward-midfielder Tomislav Zadro of K-W United was honorable mention on the Team of the Week. Zadro, who took a medical redshirt last fall as he recovered from a torn ACL in his knee, came off the bench and had a goal and an assist in a 3-2 loss to the Toronto Lynx.

WOMEN'S PREMIER SOCCER LEAGUE

The playoff format has been set for the WPSL Midwest Division, with the top four teams in the eight-team league qualifying for the single-elimination tournament.

The semifinals are scheduled for July 12 and the final is set for July 13, with the regular-season champion playing host to the matches.
