June 27, 1976: Herbert Schweinert scored twice and Jerry Zuba added a late insurance goal as Bavarian SC became the first state team to win the National Amateur Cup, beating New Jersey's Trenton Extension 3-1 in the final in front of 2,100 at Bavarian Field. The 23-year-old Schweinert got the equalizer off a feed from Fritz Weiler in the 13th minute and ran on to a through ball from Glenn Ward to score the eventual winner in the 57th for the Bavarians, who would go on to win the tournament three more times (2001 to '03).
