June 14, 1990: Jimmy Banks (Milwaukee Custer/UW-Milwaukee) started on the backline and played 80 minutes as the U.S. national team lost to world power and host Italy 1-0 in a World Cup match at Stadio Olimpico in Rome. The Americans, coached by Milwaukee's Bob Gansler, fell to 0-2-0 in Group A at their first World Cup appearance since 1950.
