Sue Black's first few moves as the owner of the Milwaukee Wave appear to follow a similar theme: Stick with what works.

A week after extending the team's lease to play its home games at U.S. Cellular Arena for another two years, Black announced Wednesday that Keith Tozer agreed to a new, three-year contract to continue as the coach and vice president of soccer operations for the Major Indoor Soccer League team.

Tozer is the winningest coach in indoor soccer history with a 730-445 record in 29 seasons, the past 21 with the Wave, and has led Milwaukee to six league championships.

“I am extremely proud and excited to be able to coach the Wave for the next three years," Tozer said in a news release. "I look forward to driving to another championship under our new owner Sue Black."

Tozer, who also has been the U.S. Futsal national team coach since 1996, has been named league coach of the year nine times and has posted just three losing seasons in his career – most recently in 1992-93, his first year with the Wave.

"Coach Tozer brings enthusiasm and excitement to soccer," said Black, who joined the club as president and CEO in February then purchased the franchise from Jim Lindenberg in April. "His expertise is the face of Milwaukee Wave and heading into our 30th year, I am thrilled about coach Tozer and Milwaukee Wave."

  • Jamie Forbes (UW-Milwaukee) will join the Chicago Red Stars for Saturday's National Women's Soccer League match at Portland Thorns FC, serving as the backup goalkeeper to rookie Taylor Vancil. Regular starter Erin McLeod is away on international duty with Canada, which faces the U.S. in a friendly Sunday in Toronto. The 23-year-old Forbes was the Red Stars' starting keeper in 2011 and '12, when the team played in the Women's Premier Soccer League.
