May 28, 1961: Lothar Weise had two goals as German club VfB Stuttgart thumped Bavarian SC 8-3 in an international friendly watched by 5,198 fans at Wauwatosa High School. Rich Schweinert, Willie Wessels and Alois Hospel scored for the Bavarians in what was reported to be the first match between a Wisconsin club and a foreign team - previous games featured local or state all-star teams. The Milwaukee Journal wrote that while the Bavarians "acquitted themselves well, they were no match for the agile, fast moving Europeans who gave the crowd an eyeful with their control of the game."
