There's a lot of excitement in Canada about next week's friendly between the host country and the U.S. – the June 2 match at BMO Field in Toronto sold out the day tickets went on sale to the general public.

Defenders Lauren Sesselmann (Green Bay Notre Dame) and Carmelina Moscato, a former University of Wisconsin assistant, were named to Canada's 18-player roster for the first meeting between the sides since their contentious match last summer at the London Olympics.

The U.S. won the Olympic semifinal 4-3 in extra time, a game that led to Canadian star striker Christine Sinclair being suspended four matches by FIFA for her critical comments about the officiating.

Sesselmann, who plays for FC Kansas City in the National Women's Soccer League, has 32 caps (29 starts) since joining the Canadian program in September 2011 – her first two international appearances were against the U.S., which hasn't lost to their border rivals since 2001.

The June 2 match kicks off at 4:30 p.m. and will be televised on ESPNews.

  • UW midfielder Kinley McNicoll was in in Morgantown, W.Va., last week for a five-day Canadian women's national team EXCELeration camp. The program was set up to help players from the ages of 17 to 23 bridge the gap from the Under-20 team to the full national team. McNicoll, who scored three goals and tied for the team lead with six assists for the Badgers as a freshman last fall, was one of 18 players at the camp.
  • Midfielder Rose Lavelle, an incoming UW freshman, is one of 20 players named to the U.S. Under-20 women's team for a trip to Sweden that starts Friday. The Americans, who are preparing for FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup qualifying, will face the Swedish Under-20 team on May 31 and the Swedish Under-23 side on June 2, with both matches in Gavle.
