Josee Stiever

Josee Stiever became part of an elite group of players in Wisconsin prep girls soccer history on Tuesday.

The Cedarburg senior midfielder was named the Gatorade Wisconsin Player of the Year for the second straight year, joining Waukesha Catholic Memorial's Leslie Osborne (2000 and '01) and Brookfield Central's Marti Desjarlais (2004 and '05) as the only players to be honored in consecutive seasons during the 16-year history of the award.

Stiever, who is headed to Minnesota in the fall, had five goals and seven assists through 12 matches this spring for the Bulldogs – the top-ranked team in the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association Division 1 state poll. She also was named the WSCA state player of the year last season and was a first-team, all-state choice for the second straight year.

"Stiever controls the game and makes other players better," Whitefish Bay coach Robert Williams said in a news release. "She sees the field very well and makes sound decisions."

In addition to her success on the field, Stiever maintains a 3.83 grade-point average and has volunteered locally serving meals to the homeless and coaching youth sports teams.
