It was a doubly disappointing Sunday for Charles Kazlauskas (Milwaukee Thomas More).

Not only did his Helmond Sport side see its hopes for promotion to the top-level Eredivisie end with a 1-1 draw against host Sparta Rotterdam, the versatile veteran wasn't even able to play because of a calf injury suffered during warmups.

Helmond Sport will remain in the second-tier Jupiler League next season after losing the two-leg series in Holland's promotion/relegation playoffs 5-3 on aggregate.

Kazlauskas played the full 90 minutes Thursday as Helmond Sport lost 4-2 in the home leg. They fell behind 3-0 after 63 minutes, then pulled two goals back in the final six minutes of regulation before allowing a fourth goal in stoppage time.

The 30-year-old Kazlauskas finished his fourth season with Helmond Sport with five goals and six assists in 31 appearances (30 starts) in all competitions.

  • Injury hit another Wisconsin player Sunday, too. Andrew Stadler (Wauwatosa West) suffered a hamstring injury during Sandvikens IF's 1-1 draw with host AFC United in a Division 1 Norra match in Sweden. "No football for a while," read part of a tweet posted by Stadler, who has scored three of the five goals for Sandvikens (0-2-4) this season.
  • James Weber (Hartford) extended his goal-scoring run Saturday in Sweden, finding the back of the net in the 12th minute as Gullringens GOIF beat visiting IF Haga 2-0 in a Division 3 Nordöstra Götaland match. Weber has scored in each of the first six matches of the season, is tied for the league lead in goals for second-place Gullringens (4-2-0) and has 15 goals in 16 appearances since signing with the fifth-division club last July.
  • Michele Dalton (UW) posted her second clean sheet in three matches as host UMF Selfoss played a 0-0 draw with Afturelding in an Úrvalsdeild match Saturday in Iceland. The 25-year-old Dalton has allowed just one goal so far for Selfoss (2-0-1), which is third in the 10-team league.
