May 19, 2002: The U.S. men's national team lost to the Netherlands 2-0 in Foxborough, Mass., in its final warmup for the 2002 World Cup in Korea and Japan. Tony Sanneh (UW-Milwaukee) was named "Man of the Match" for the U.S., which controlled play but couldn't get a shot past Dutch goalkeeper Ronald Waterreus. The Americans went on to upset tournament favorite Portugal and advance to the quarterfinals at the World Cup.
