UW-Parkside junior midfielder Jasmine Espino made her international debut for Guatemala this spring, starting three matches as "La Seleccion Chapina" finished third at the Central American Games in March in San Jose, Costa Rica.

The 22-year-old Espino played the first half of a 3-2 win over Panama on March 6 and went 47 minutes in a 6-2 rout of Honduras four days later as Guatemala won both of its matches to win Group B. She then logged 58 minutes in the semifinals March 12, but Guatemala allowed two early goals to Nicaragua and ended up losing 2-1.

Espino, a Chicago native who qualifies for Guatemala because her mother is a native of the Central American country, was on the bench but didn't play in a 5-3 victory over Panama in the third-place match.

The team will now turn its attention to 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying – Guatemala is looking to earn its first berth in the tournament. The format and schedule for CONCACAF qualifying hasn't been announced.

The first Parkside player named to a senior national team, Espino has made 47 appearances in three seasons with the Rangers and has six goals and six assists. She started all 20 matches and had four goals and an assist for Parkside (14-5-1) last fall.
