Statistically, Nick Vorberg was the top goalkeeper in the Major Indoor Soccer League this season.

Team management from across the league and selected media members agreed with that assessment.

The 38-year-old Vorberg was named to the All-MISL first team on Tuesday, the second time the Milwaukee Wave keeper has earned such an honor. The announcement also makes him the favorite to receive his second Goalkeeper of the Year award when the league's individual honors are announced Wednesday.

Vorberg's 7.76 points-against average was nearly one point better than that of runner-up William Vanzela of the Baltimore Blast, while his .815 save percentage was well ahead of the .778 percentage for his teammate, Marcel Feenstra. Vorberg also was a first-team All-MISL pick and Goalkeeper of the Year in the 2009-10 season.

Wave midfielder-forward Luan Oliveira claimed a spot on the All-MISL second team and was named to the All-Rookie team. Oliveira shared the team lead with 25 goals, tied for second with 16 assists and led Milwaukee with 68 points in 25 games – that total ranked seventh in the league.

Oliveira appears to be the favorite for the Rookie of the Year award, as he was the only one of three finalists to make the league's first or second team. The Wave's Keith Tozeralso is a finalist for Coach of the Year after leading Milwaukee to a share of the best record in the league (21-5) and a franchise-record 16-game winning streak.

  • Defender Katie Kelly (Marquette) is in training camp with FC Kansas City of the new National Women's Soccer League. Kelly, who has been living and coaching in Kansas City, played for Swedish clubs Kristianstads DFF in 2010 and Hammarby IF in 2011 and German club 1.FC Lok Leipzig last year.
