Pyzdrowski returns to action

The result wasn't ideal, but Matt Pyzdrowski (Marquette) had to be thrilled to be back on the field Sunday.

Pyzdrowski made six saves as Ängelholms FF lost to visiting IK Brage 2-0 in a Superettan season opener in Sweden.

It was his first appearance in a league match since July 29, when he was forced out of Ängelholms' loss to Trelleborgs FF after suffering his third concussion of the season. After conferring with physicians, Pyzdrowski sat out the remainder of the 2012 season.

Pyzdrowski was the club's player of the year in 2011 as Ängelholms narrowly missed promotion to the top-level Allsvenskan, and had played every minute in goal for the team until the Trelleborgs match last July.

The 26-year-old, who was 8-4-5 with a 1.45 goals-against average and three shutouts last year, signed a two-year contract extension with the club in October. And as if the concussions weren't enough, after Pyzdrowski was cleared to return to training, he suffered a fractured fibula in his leg.

IK Brage scored both of its goals Sunday in the second half, the first in the 46th minute and the other in the third minute of stoppage time. The Superettan season runs through early November, with the top two teams in the 16-team league earning spots in the Allsvenskan next season and the third-place finisher advancing to the promotion playoffs.
