Patrick McLain (Eau Claire Memorial) is in his second season as a professional soccer player, but the goalkeeper has hardly seen any game action during that time.

Ideally, that will change in the very near future.

The 24-year-old McLain joined the LA Blues of the USL PRO league on Wednesday on loan from Major League Soccer's Chivas USA. The loan initially runs through May, but there's an option to extend it for an additional month.

He was on the bench for the Blues' 1-0 win over Orlando City FC, watching as Carl Woszczynski made eight saves in the clean sheet. The Blues (2-1-0) are back in action Saturday at Phoenix FC Wolves (1-2-0).

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound McLain, third on the Chivas USA depth chart behind starterDan Kennedy and backup Tim Melia, played 45 minutes of an MLS Reserve League match and in some friendlies as a rookie last season following a stellar career at Cal Poly.
