UW-Milwaukee women's soccer coach Greg Henschel turned to a familiar face to fill an opening on his coaching staff.
Henschel announced Monday that Jon Gulrajani, who served as a volunteer assistant for the Panthers last season, would move into a full-time role with the program. He replaces Kristen Weiss, who departed UWM after one year to take a similar position at the University of Wisconsin in February, and joins David Madsen as Henschel's assistants.
Gulrajani played alongside Henschel at Brookfield East High School, helping the Spartans to the WIAA state final in 1990 and semifinals in '91, then went on to a standout coaching career at Wauwatosa West – the UW-Milwaukee graduate recorded more than 300 victories and 17 conference championships as the Trojans' boys and girls coach.
In 2011, Gulrajani was an assistant in the UW-Oshkosh women's program as the Titans won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament championship – outlasting Henschel's UW-Whitewater team 4-3 on penalty kicks following a 1-1 draw in the final – and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament.
"We are pleased to have Jon become a full-time member of our staff," Henschel said in a news release. "Last year in his role with our program, he demonstrated tremendous passion and an excellent work ethic on behalf of Panther soccer. He brings great insight to our team, has a great eye for the game and is a great communicator."
