FC Milwaukee's Under-15/16 Development Academy side went unbeaten at the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Winter Showcase last week in Lakewood Ranch, Fla., winning twice and tying their other match.

Reid Stevenson (Sturgeon Bay) scored a pair of goals, giving him three in seven matches for the Nationals (6-5-2) after joining the team following the high school season, and goalkeeper Alex Rodriguez posted two clean sheets.

Stevenson gave FC Milwaukee (6-5-2) the early lead against BW Gottschee with an 18th-minute goal on Dec. 1, but goals by Akeem Morris in the 44th and 50th gave the New York club the lead. Marcus McCrary(Madison La Follette), one of the leading scorers in the Development Academy, gave the Nationals a 2-2 tie with his eighth goal of the season in the 66th.

The next day, Keoni Bailey (Oshkosh West) scored his first goal of the year in the 37th and Stevenson doubled the lead 6 minutes later in a 2-0 victory over Virginia's McLean Youth Soccer. FC Milwaukee (6-5-2) closed out the event Tuesday with an identical 2-0 win over California's Santa Cruz Breakers, getting goals from Nicholas Moon (Waukesha West) in the 27th and Buran Huseini (South Milwaukee) in the 73rd – Moon has three goals on the season and Huseini has two.

The Nationals' Under-17/18 team wrapped up their trip last Monday on a positive note, scoring a season-high three goals and blanking the Santa Cruz Breakers 3-0 for their second win.

UW-Milwaukee recruit Ryan Shogren (Madison La Follette) opened his account in the 25th, Nikola Atlija (Franklin) added his third of the year in the 60th and Marquette recruit Driton Zyteja (Sun Prairie) finished things off with his second goal in the 78th. Saint Louis recruit Bryan Seefeld (Hartland Arrowead) posted his second shutout of the season in goal.

FC Milwaukee (2-10-1) lost to BW Gottschee 4-0 on Nov. 30, allowing all four goals in the final 37 minutes – including in the 53rd, 54th and 66th – and dropped a 2-1 decision to McLean on Dec. 1 despite Daniel Garcia's first goal.

The Nationals' next scheduled matches are in March.

  • FC Wisconsin Eclipse had two players named to the All-Event Best XI from the Elite Clubs National League Phoenix Showcase, which was Sept. 29 to Oct. 1: forward Gabrielle Dorsey (Hartford) made the Under-16 squad, while defender Brooke Szafranski (Mequon Homestead) was honored in Under-17 play.
  • Last weekend, FC Wisconsin Eclipse's Under-15 team took four of a possible six points in ECNL Midwest Conference matches against St. Louis Scott Gallagher's Metro and Missouri teams at the St. Louis Soccer Park. Megan Stoffel (Wauwatosa West) scored off a corner kick in stoppage time on Dec. 1 to give Wisconsin Eclipse a 1-0 victory over the Metro side – featuring Illinois players – while Jen Wendling (Kenosha Tremper) scored the equalizer in a 1-1 draw with the Missouri team a day later. The Under-16 team got a penalty kick from Allison Jacobson and a goal fromKenzie Challoner to beat Metro 2-1, reversing a result between the teams back on Nov. 18 for the only other victory for the club on the weekend. FC Wisconsin Eclipse plays its final league matches of 2012 next weekend against Minnesota Thunder Academy and Sporting Blue Valley (Kan.) at indoor domes in the Twin Cities. The club's Under-17 and Under-18 teams then will play in the ECNL Sanford Showcase from Dec. 28 and 30 in Florida.
  • North Shore United had a rough start to the U.S. Youth Soccer National League season last weekend in Wilson, S.C., taking just one point from four matches. North Shore United tied Ohio's Blast FC 1-1, getting a 77th-minute equalizer from Lydia Koenig, but lost to Team Chicago Academy Botafogo 3-0, Virginia's VSA Heat Blue 4-0 and Texas' SCFC 95 Premier 1-0. North Shore will wrap up National League play March 15 to 17 at a site to be announced.
