More Milwaukee-area club changes

The club soccer landscape in southeastern Wisconsin continues to change quickly.

A month after FC Milwaukee announced it was in the final stages of a merger with Sockers FC Wisconsin – a club formed just last year in a merger of three clubs – two more clubs from the Milwaukee area are combining their competitive teams.

Mequon SC and Grafton SC recently unveiled plans to create Fusion SC for their Under-11 through Under-18 teams starting in the 2013-14 season. The Ozaukee County clubs will continue to run separate recreational and academy programs.

Fusion SC will be jointly overseen by the coaching directors: Carlos "Cacho" Cordoba from Mequon SC and Don Arnold of Grafton SC. The new teams will be eligible for the USL Super-Y League, which Mequon SC previously has played in, and teams will split practices and home games between the two communities.

With these moves, there will be two clubs – Sockers FC Wisconsin and Fusion SC – where there were six clubs as recently as the 2011-12 season. Oconomowoc SC, Wales' Kettle Moraine United and Hartland's Lake Country United merged together last year and partnered with Sockers FC Chicago to form Sockers FC Wisconsin.
