Chichitas had their two-year run as the National Indoor Soccer Women's Open champions halted over the weekend.

The Madison-based team finished 2-2-0 in the five-team round-robin competition and was awarded second place at the tournament at Soccer City in Palatine, Ill.

It was the fifth consecutive year Chichitas have played in the NISC, and they continued their streak of finishing first or second every year: They've won national titles in 2009, '11 and '12 and took second in 2010 in addition to this year.

Chichitas got off to a rough start, losing to Ohio's Lady Saints 4-0 and fellow Wisconsin side 414/608 All-Stars 2-1 in their two matches Saturday, but stormed back to thump Michigan's Ann Arbor FC 6-0 and Illinois' Lightning 6-2 on Sunday.

The 414/608 All-Stars knocked off Ann Arbor FC 4-1 in their opener before tipping Chichitas, setting the stage for a showdown with fellow unbeaten Lady Saints in Sunday's first match. The Lady Saints pulled out a 2-1 win and went on to win the title with a 4-0-0 record, while the 414/608 All-Stars forfeited their scheduled finale against Lightning due to a lack of healthy players.

In the Coed Open division, Madison-based Fox in the Box finished 1-2-0 in Pool A and didn't advance to the semifinals. The team routed Illinois' Mixed Nuts 5-1 in their first match Saturday, but lost to Michigan's Rotten Bananas 3-2 and dropped a 6-1 decision to California side Freekick FC to wrap up pool play Sunday. Freekick FC lost to Illinois' Waukegan United 5-1 in the final.
