Two long winning streaks continued on a chilly Thursday night in the Madison area.
Waunakee cruised past host Baraboo 6-0 in a Northern Badger Conference girls soccer opener, the 43rd consecutive conference victory for the Warriors.
Junior Abby Pandow had two goals and an assist for Waunakee (5-0-1), which has lost just once in the 11-year history of the Northern Badger: A 1-0 setback against Reedsburg on May 20, 2003. The Warriors are 54-1-0 all-time in Northern Badger play.
At the same time at Mansfield Stadium, sophomore forward Ruth Lenzen had a goal and an assist as Madison Memorial beat rival Madison West 3-0 to extend its Big Eight Conference winning streak to 34 games.
Freshman Megan Johnson – the daughter of Olympic star and University of Wisconsin women's hockey coach Mark Johnson – made two saves for her first shutout in her second appearance in goal for the Spartans (3-3-0 overall, 3-0-0 Big Eight), whose last loss in conference action was a 2-1 overtime defeat against Madison La Follette on April 24, 2008.
