Colleges: NCCAA, Scholar honors

Three players who helped the Northland International men's soccer team advance to its second straight National Christian College Athletic Association Division II final earned spots on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-America team.

Junior midfielder Josh Netz, junior defender James Kuhle and freshman forward Jorge Saucedo were named to the 14-member honor squad for the Pioneers, who lost to Moody Bible (Ill.) 1-0 in the national championship game. It was the second consecutive year the Archers beat Northland International in the final.

Saucedo led the Pioneers (16-6-1) with 16 goals and added five assists, while Netz played a role in 27 goals with 15 goals and 12 assists. Kuhle anchored a backline that allowed 1.13 goals per game and posted 10 shutouts.

  • Maranatha Baptist had a trio of seniors on the NCCAA Division II women's All-American team: leading scorer Allison Steinhaus, midfielder Jocelyn Enrique and defender Alysha Morris (Maranatha Baptist). Steinhaus had 14 goals and one assist for the Crusaders (9-13-1), who finished fifth at the national tournament. Enrique added eight goals and five assists, and Morris got forward to contribute a pair of goals in addition to her defensive work.

Scholar All-American teams

Marquette senior defender Ally Miller (Mequon Homestead) and Baylor senior forward Dana Larsen (Mequon Homestead) were named to the first team of the women's NSCAA University Division Scholar All-American team.

Miller and Larsen, who were one-time prep teammates, previously were named NSCAA All-Americans and Capital One Academic All-Americans by the College Sports Information Directors of America – Larsen was the Academic All-American of the Year. Miller has a 3.86 grade-point average in advertising, while Larsen is a biochemistry major with a 4.00 GPA.

Marquette senior midfielder Rachel Brown, who has a 3.56 GPA in accounting and finance, was a second-team selection.

Grand Valley State (Mich.) senior forward Ashley Botts (Beloit) made the first team of the College Division team. Botts was an NSCAA first-team All-American for the third straight season and has a 3.52 GPA in biomedical sciences.
