The Marquette men's soccer team has some new faces as it starts offseason workouts – and a familiar one, too.

Golden Eagles coach Louis Bennett announced the additions of transfers Brady Wahl from Ohio State and David Selvaggi from DePaul, along with his son Louis Bennett II, an incoming freshman who enrolled in school early.

Both transfers have two seasons of eligibility remaining – Wahl, a midfielder, is eligible to play for the Golden Eagles in 2013 but Selvaggi, a striker, must sit out next season due to Big East Conference transfer rules.

Wahl made 36 appearances (33 starts) in his two years with the Buckeyes, scoring once and adding four assists. He played club soccer with new Marquette teammatesBryan Ciesiulka and Charlie Lyon in the Chicago area.

Selvaggi, whose brother Anthony completed his Golden Eagles career last fall, tied for the team lead with seven goals in 19 matches (13 starts) in 2011 and earned a spot on the All-Big East Rookie Team. He had two assists in 13 appearances for the Blue Demons last season.

"Both Brady and David were guys we liked when they first came out, but they committed elsewhere," the elder Bennett said in a news release. "After this past season they still had a strong interest in us, because we lost some significant players to graduation. We were ready to give them an opportunity, and they wanted to take advantage of what Marquette has to offer."

The younger Bennett is the highest-rated recruit in Marquette history.

The midfielder is first in the Midwest Region in the Top Drawer Soccer 2013 recruit rankings – in the website's national rankings, Bennett is the 33rd midfielder and 65th overall. He played at Shorewood High School and Bavarian SC before joining the Chicago Fire Academy and transferring to Lake Forest Academy in Illinois; he returned to Shorewood and graduated in December.

The rest of the Golden Eagles' 2013 recruiting class will be announced after Feb. 6, the beginning of the NCAA signing period.

  • The Marquette men also announced a nine-game spring exhibition schedule, which starts March 23 against UW-Parkside and Loyola (Ill.) at Valley Fields and wraps up April 28 with a morning game against DePaul at home and a match at rival UW-Milwaukee at night. The annual Wisconsin Division I Spring Challenge tournament featuring the Golden Eagles, UWM, UW-Green Bay and the University of Wisconsin is set for April 13 at Valley Fields. Marquette will play at Creighton, which has advanced to the NCAA College Cup semifinals the past two years, on April 20 in Omaha, Neb.
  • The UW athletic board on Friday extended the contracts of men's coach John Trask and women's coach Paula Wilkins through Jan. 31, 2016. Trask has compiled a 20-29-10 record in three seasons with the Badgers, while Wilkins has posted a 58-45-17 mark in six seasons.
  • Ryan Wehking, who graduated from UW-Green Bay after spending four years as the Phoenix's starting goalkeeper, was named a graduate assistant coach at NCAA Division I Lipscomb in Nashville, Tenn. Wehking finished his career as Green Bay's career leader with 20 shutouts and ranks fourth in both goals-against average (1.16) and saves (260).
  • For the second straight year, Michigan Tech senior defender Melanie Hoffman (Pulaski) was one of six female student-athletes honored with the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Commissioner's Award for the fall sports season. The awards are bestowed for excellence in competition and the classroom. Hoffman was an All-GLIAC honorable mention selection as she helped the Huskies (14-3-2, 11-1-1) claim a share of the conference title, and maintains a 4.0 grade-point average in exercise science and biology.
